In July of this year Love Joule opened in Tokyo's
Shibuya district. According to Akiko Teishi, who interviewed bar patrons, the
locals refer to it as the “female masturbation bar”. According to Akiko Sayama, a nurse and
frequent bar patron, says the bar is about breaking barriers – it is an outlet
for women in the country often faced with the rapid sexualizing of women in the
country. Sayama added, “I go because it is a safe place and I don't have to
worry about trying to brush off men all the time. Add in that it is also a
great place to drink and talk about what we women love to talk about, sex and
guys, that's also a big pull,” she told Bikyamasr.com.
Lkuko Ikeshita of Ikeshita Ladies’ Clinic told Japanese web
magazine ZakZak, “Traditionally, whenever a female patient would come in with a
problem like having a sex toy get stuck, hospital staff would look at them
coldly, now people realize that it's just something that happens.” One wonders just how prevalent this problem is...
