Some are trying to position this as a free speech or freedom of religion issue but the fact is that Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A's president went on record that he has donated millions of dollars to conservative organizations that oppose homosexuality "and he openly condemn the beliefs of a big chunk of Chick-fil-A’s audience, he implied that their views are unpatriotic and even put the country at risk."
Dan and his supporters do have rights and are entitled to live and vocalize their beliefs that a specific community of AMERICAN CITIZENS are not created equal and do not have unalienable rights. They can even exclude that specific community of AMERICAN CITIZENS from attending their churches, schools and events. But what audacity to attempt to portray themselves as the injured party when they have ALL of their unalienable rights intact. Their position mimics those who wanted race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States. And they couch their prejudice in religion just like judge "Leon M. Bazile, who echoed Johann Friedrich Blumenbach's 18th-century interpretation of race, proclaimed that:
Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placedthem on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix." |
