New Jersey Supermarket Employee Kills 2 - Shoots Self

According to Rene Lynch of the Los Angeles Times  a super market employee walked into a New Jersey super market with an AK-47 and a automatic pistol and killed two employees before killing himself. The article goes on to say, "The incident is likely to reignite debate over guns - especially assault rifles -- and gun violence in America. It occurs just weeks after the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting and the Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin."

According to Reuters  Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry described the suspected shooter as a former marine and a disgruntled worker who had been employed by the Pathmark for just a few weeks, the Star-Ledger newspaper said.

Questions:
How does a person who has been employed for "just a few weeks" become "disgruntled" enough to shoot co-workers?

Are these shootings isolated incidents or is there "more than meets the eye"?

Will this cause citizens to rethink their position on gun ownership?

I'd like to know what you think.

UPDATED: Aurora Shooting Eyewitness - Possible second shooter

The mystery deepens. An eyewitness to the shooting states that "he had someone with him". He also stated that the second cannister of gas "did not come from his side". According to Michael Kelly's  article in the  business insider at a July 20 press conference Chief Dan Oates said investigators were confident that James Holmes acted alone and that he was "apprehended outside his White Hyundai parked in the back of the theater..."

BUT - the article goes on to state that skeptics point to an exchange in the police transmissions as evidence that Holmes was found in his LOCKED car with a gas mask on and heavily drugged and it appears they were prepared to carry him out on a white stretcher board (pictured underneath the car). Three minutes after Holmes was supposedly detained in/by his car, an officer says "One of the shooters might be wearing a white and blue plaid shirt" and the dispatcher responds "Copy, outstanding shooter possibly wearing a white and blue plaid shirt."

Factor in that a second gas mask was found hundreds of feet from Theater 9's emergency exit and Holmes' car. Keep in mind that Holmes was immediately arrested in the back of the theater 90 seconds after the first 911 call was made and was found wearing a different gas mask.

Now that the Holmes case is sealed the records can not be examined and compared to the information that we currently have.

Why was there a second gas mask?
Was there a second shooter?
Does it seems that Holmes was conveniently left to take the "rap"?
Who could have been behind this?
Will we ever know what really happened?

Islamophobia - Right or Wrong

Pamela Gellar won the right to post anti-Islam ads on MAA buses.  Does Gellar's actions conflict with  what America, a country of immigrants, stands for? Should she be allowed to advertise this message even if it could inflame people to commit indiscriminate acts of violence?  Are all Muslims to be feared? What do you think?

Should Mitt Romney Release More Tax Returns? What do you think?

Mitt's wife Ann told NBC that her husband's campaign will not release any additional tax returns to the public. Some say this is a partisan issue but at least 20 prominent Republicans have gone on record saying that Romney should release more returns.

Why do you think Mitt is not releasing more of his tax returns? Will the returns reveal information that Mitt wants to conceal from the public? Should Mitt release more returns or is this a non issue.

Gunman shoots multiple people at Texas A&M

According to the Los Angeles Times "A gunman has been taken into custody near the Texas A&M University campus after shooting several people..."

Is there a conspiracy? Five easy steps to create a Manchurian Candidate.

I received an email with a link to an interesting website. The writer asserts that the recent shootings are part of a concerted effort to manipulate Americans into giving up their 2nd amendment rights and that "...the killings are not random acts of violence and that the method of the attack is designed to inflame anger and hysteria in the American public..."

Salaman: To Deter Gun Slaughters...

Richard M. Salsman, a contributor to Forbes, has weighed in on the gun control issue: " ...Gun control-advocates want to blame mass shootings on “too many guns,” but the real problem is far too few guns and gun freedom..."

The "commenters"   in our informal, unscientific survey seem to be in agreement Mr. Salsman. This is an emotionally charged issue on both sides of the question.  Your participation is appreciated and I look forward to reading more of your comments. The issue will not be settled here but this is your opportunity to let your voice be heard...

The Aurora Shooter's Guns, Do we need more restrictions or less?

This is an "informal" survey - anonymous is OK. Please leave your comment(s) about your position on this issue:

The weapons: AR-15, 870 Remington 12-gauge shotgun plus 300 rounds of ammunitions, two .40-caliber Glock handguns

Should individuals have the right to own weapons that are designed specifically for military and law enforcement? Are those types of weapons designed primarily to kill or wound human beings?

Are the current restrictions enough? Should the current restrictions be removed?

Should the federal government regulate the sale of guns and ammunition or should each state decide how/if they want to regulate.

You know what they say...

"The only thing certain in life is death and taxes." I've got the death thing covered  with a term life insurance policy, that I can convert to whole life, with a $500,000 payout - it was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be and  I was able to do everything from home. I started here: www.quoteforterminsurance.com*. I was able to research quotes from different companies just by clicking on the links. Now if I can only figure out how to "cover" the tax thing...

*In the interest of full disclosure: one of the principles is a personal friend and has bought more than a couple of rounds...

Aurora Shooting - An Unusual Shroud Of Secrecy

According to Yahoo News an editorial by the Denver Post says Sylvester's order has "imposed an unusual shroud of secrecy on the case" and goes beyond protecting the defendant's right to a fair trial.

Rumors that the father of the shooter ties Libor banking scandal have surfaced and as of yet authorities claim they have no idea as to the motive of the shooter.   The Los Angeles Times, quoting Anthony Mai (a family friend), described Holmes in the following way: “I saw him as a normal guy, an everyday guy, doing everyday things.” He was a “very shy, well-mannered young man who was heavily involved in their local Presbyterian church.” Similarly, an AP Reportincluded the assessment of Jackie Mitchell, who lived in the same neighborhood as Holmes and reportedly had a beer with him the  week of the shootings. “We just talked about football. He had a backpack and geeky glasses and seemed like a real intelligent guy,” Mitchell said. “And I figured he was one of the college students.” Noting that he had “swagger,” Mitchell’s “insight,” albeit based on a single encounter, purportedly authenticates a narrative of Holmes as a “normal” All-American kid.  He drinks beer and talks football like  many other 24-year olds. Other reports depict Holmes as “reserved” and “respectful;” as a “loner” and as a “kid,” despite being 24-years old.

Why the shroud of secrecy? Will the facts show that the shooter actually had no motive and no recollection of what he had done? Is there more to this then what meets the eye? Was he in fact a "sleeper assassin test subject"? Will we ever know for sure?

Aurora Shooting, Sikh Shooting and Sleeper Assassins

James Holmes graduated with honors in neuroscience, the study of how the brain works, and worked in a neuroscience research facility on campus. Wade Michael Page is a former soldier who worked in military psychological operations. Is there a connection?

Mitt Romney says America is "poised to take off economically."

After attacking President Obama, for what Mitt calls "an extraordinary series of policy failures, Mitt goes on to describe America as being "poised to take off economically."  My guess is that Mitt and team will be walking his comment back soon.

Defense spending, National Security and the Military Industrial Complex

"You're constantly being given false choices," Rubio told reporters this week on Capitol Hill. "'If you want to save national security, you have to agree to raise taxes that will hurt our economy.' Well, that's a false choice and quite frankly it's a destructive one."

Talk about false choices. This is being positioned to the American people as being about national security. The reality is that it's about funneling cash to the Military Industrial Complex. In order for the MIC to stay in business they need to find new markets (wars) to pedal their "products". If peace breaks out around the world there will be stock piles of their "products" as governments would not be buying war related goods and services. To stay in business the MIC needs soldiers to keep shooting, bombs to keep falling, military vehicles to keep getting destroyed so they can be replaced. Economics 101 - if there is no demand for your products your business will fail. So don't expect peace to break out any time soon as our elected officials serve at the will of the MIC and any actions they take will be to further perpetuate conflicts that will continue to drive more and more tax dollars to the MIC...

Woman lifts car off father and saves his life.

"I just lifted up kind of right here and just kind of threw it, shoved my body into it as hard as I could. And then I came back and dragged him out and started CPR," Kornacki told Fox 19.
A remarkable feat of strength. My advice to her current or future significant other, "Keep her happy...."

Local politicians tell Chick-fil-A chain they are not welcome.

"D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D), along with the mayors of Boston, Chicago and San Francisco have warned that the chain is not welcome and the company should not bother pursuing new franchises in their towns. Gray has also accused the chain of serving up “hate..."

Some are trying to position this as a free speech or freedom of religion issue but the fact is that Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A's president went on record that he has  donated millions of dollars  to conservative organizations that oppose homosexuality "and he openly condemn the beliefs of a big chunk of Chick-fil-A’s audience, he implied that their views are unpatriotic and even put the country at risk."

Dan and his supporters do have rights and are entitled to live and vocalize their beliefs that a specific community of AMERICAN CITIZENS are not created equal and do not have unalienable rights. They can even exclude that specific community of AMERICAN CITIZENS from attending their churches, schools and events. But what audacity to attempt to portray themselves as the injured party when they have ALL of their unalienable rights intact. Their position mimics those who wanted race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States. And they couch their prejudice in religion just like judge "Leon M. Bazile, who echoed Johann Friedrich Blumenbach's 18th-century interpretation of race, proclaimed that:

Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placedthem on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix."

I for one am glad that the Mayors had the courage of their convictions to speak out and I am sure they are prepared to accept the decision of their constituents come election time.
